Brian "BG" Gardenhire

Brian "BG" Gardenhire began his love for the game of basketball at the early age of eight years old. Growing up in Lower East Side, New York City, he watched and practiced on the playground courts with his father teaching the fundamentals.  As a student-athlete at St. Anthony's/St. Mary's High School in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was First-Team All-County and Second-Team All-New Jersey.

Brian enrolled at Westchester Community Junior College, Division 1 team, near his hometown.  As a freshman he led his region with assists and his team to the championship.  His sophomore year, the Westcos player wound up earning 2nd Team All-Region and 2nd in three-pointers made.  He transferred to the University of Rhode Island, Atlantic 10 Conference and showcased his shooting and ball-handling abilities.

After graduation, "BG" played two years overseas for Mexico City, Israel, Finland and Brazil.  Since his arrival back to the States, Gardenhire has been coaching for the past ten years all over New York City for respected organizations, including Nike, an assistant coach for A. S. A. College, Division 1 Women's Basketball team who went back-to-back National Regional First-Round (2014 - 2015); professional trainer for NBA D-League and NBA athletes, J. R. Smith (New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers), Ron Artest (New York Knicks), Kemba Walker (Charlotte Bobcats) to name a few, founder and director of L. E. S. Express (Learn, Educate, Success), a non-profit community-based organization that promotes education, health awareness, life skills and fun through the sport of basketball.

"Helping athletes transition is a passion and love for me because being apart of the journey allows you to not only see the transition but feel it as well." - Brian Gardenhire
