Verne was born & raised in Brooklyn, New York. He has been playing & involved with basketball since a very young age & still plays to this day. His genuine love & passion for the game of basketball in indisputable. Despite no international experience, he's competed & won on the highest level of the NYC pro league circuit. He currently coaches & trains a highly talented Brooklyn Rens AAU program (NY Rens affiliate) & also currently an assistant coach for the boys varsity program at South Shore High School (Brooklyn,NY). He was an assistant coach on the Brooklyn Collegiate boys varsity team that reached the PSAL Final Four (2014).
He began coaching & training his younger brother Lance Goulbourne at the age of 14, who was a former All-state tennis player & US Open ball boy. Lance later evolved into a All-State & All-American performer at the Hun School of Princeton (2005-2008), where he won a state title in 2007 & back to back league titles in 2007 & 2008. He played in the Jordan Brand Classic at Madison Square Garden & participated in the Nike Global Games among other prestigious camps & all-star events. Lance later attended Vanderbilt University, where they captured the first SEC Conference title for the program in over 50 years (2012). After college, he attended Golden State Warriors training camp, then played for their NBA D-League affiliate the Santa Cruz Warriors (NBDL runner up back to back seasons), where he was one of the top defenders & rebounders in the league. Lance was on the Golden State Warriors team that won the inaugural NBA Summer League Championship (2013). Lance's professional international resume includes stops in Korea, Turkey & he currently plays in France.
Laverne brings a positive winning attitude packaged with a tough, detailed oriented, precise approach to training players that apply to their skill set, mind set, body type & conditioning level. Being that he's played both guard & forward positions throughout his career, he has the basketball IQ & knowledge to help all types of players expand their skill set. Any player, male or female, of any age, will benefit tremendously from the wide array of methods to vastly improve on their overall game both mentally & physically that Laverne introduces.
Laverne is the father of his 7-year old daughter, Jael. He graduated from Marist High School (Bayonne, NJ) after attending Brooklyn Tech High School. Laverne attended Lehigh University and also played on a National Title Runner-Up team at Sullivan County Community College (2001) & NCAA Tournament teams at the University of Bridgeport (2003,2004), where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Finance. Professionally, Laverne is the CEO & Principal Broker of LG Estates Inc., a residential real estate brokerage in NYC. He is also a brand ambassador for the basketball statistical social media site, BallStar.
