Sports Awareness For Educating Today's Youth


The state of New Jersey requires volunteer coaches to attend a "safety orientation and training skills program" in order to be eligible for civil immunity protection provided by the Little League Law (2A:62A-6 et. seq.) The curriculum for the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic is based upon the Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills Programs (N.J.A.C. 5:52) and has been tested in court as having met the standards.


The topics include:

  • Legal Aspects of Coaching

  • Psychological Aspects of Coaching

  • General Coaching Concepts

  • Training and Condition Athletes

  • Medical/First Aid Aspects of Coaching

COST:  $30

Individuals who attend this program receive:

  • Coaching the Child Behind the Athlete textbook

  • The Coaches Reference Manual (4th edition)

  • Certification card acknowledging attendance

  • Permanent registration with Rutgers YSRC
